Jordan Mason has emerged as a remarkable substitute for the ailing Christian McCaffrey. However, in the wake of the San Francisco 49ers’ 36-24 triumph over the Seahawks on Thursday night, the team may now find themselves in need of a replacement for Mason, who sustained a shoulder injury during the second quarter. Following the match, head coach Kyle Shanahan provided no insights into the severity of Mason’s condition, indicating that more information would be available the next day.
“Yeah, he thought he was going to be alright,” Shanahan remarked. “He returned to the game, but the pain became too intense, prompting him to leave. That was right after the first play, and he had to come out just for precautionary reasons.”
Mason walked to the locker room for X-rays and was later deemed questionable to return. He did re-enter the game for one play in the third quarter but immediately headed to the sidelines after an 8-yard rush. Shortly thereafter, he made his way to the blue medical tent, where he was seen trying to assess his injured left shoulder both before and after his time inside.
“I don’t know; you never really can tell,” Shanahan added. “Adrenaline affects things differently on game days. We’ll have a clearer picture tomorrow.”
During the game, Jordan Mason amassed 73 yards on nine carries, elevating his NFL-leading rushing total for the season to 609 yards. In his absence, rookie Isaac Guerendo, along with Patrick Taylor and wide receiver Deebo Samuel, stepped in at running back, and the offense continued to perform effectively. The 49ers accumulated a total of 228 rushing yards, with 155 of those yards coming from players other than Mason. The seriousness of Mason’s injury remains uncertain.
